Highlights from Birches Group’s Newest Integrating Human Resources Workshop

Last October, Birches Group launched its first 5-day Integrating Human Resources workshop in Dubai, UAE. The level of interest was very strong, leading us to hold two sessions on consecutive weeks to accommodate a total of 40 participants from 25 organizations from 25 different countries. The workshops were well-received by the majority of the participants and received excellent reviews.

The Integrating Human Resources workshop uniquely covers three main subject areas in the field of Human Resources: Job Design and Evaluation, Compensation Management, and Performance Management (Recognition and Reward). These topics were carefully selected to address mainstream HR issues such as securing talent, building your workforce, measuring and enabling performance, and most of all, how to integrate these under a single, integrated framework. The course begins with a thorough discussion of jobs and how job standards serve as a framework to determine pay and performance.

The workshop features Birches Group’s proprietary software – CommunityTM across the jobs, markets, skills, and performance modules. Case studies are built around Birches Group’s experience with the development sector, and extensive discussions are carried out across the 5-day programme, coupled with practical individual and group exercises.

NEW! Integrating HR Workshop- October 1-5, 2018

Birches Group is pleased to announce our first 5-day workshop: Integrating HR. The course combines all three current workshop offerings- Job Design and Evaluation, Compensation Management, and Recognition and Reward, featuring comprehensive discussions around 4 main topics in Human Resources, namely: jobs, markets, skills, and performance.

The curriculum focuses on an integrated approach towards these four areas because we recognize that HR professionals in any sector could only truly emerge as strategic partners within their organizations if they are not only able to overcome challenges in each of these areas, but also be able to link them together.

The workshop is built on Birches Group’s integrated Human Resource platform – Community™. The Community™ application will be used across the job evaluation, skills assessment, and performance evaluation exercises. Participants will also be exposed to a number of practical exercises that are designed to allow attendees to quickly apply their learnings. Diagnostic exercises will also help participants examine their own based on the practices raised for each module of the workshop.

Lastly, a case study of a fictional international NGO country office, has been developed based on Birches Group’s extensive work in this sector. This fictional organization, WeHelp, will serve as a common reference for the different practical exercises.

Highlights from Birches Group’s Newest Recognition and Reward Workshop

Birches Group concluded its first Recognition and Reward workshop last March 18-20, 2018 at the Sarova Stanley Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The three-day workshop, attended by 21 representatives from 16 different organizations, focused on new approaches for recognition and reward of staff and received a positive overall response from the participants.

One participant from Marie Stopes International, said, “The workshop increased my knowledge on job classification, performance management, and the recognition and reward system. It also exposed me to new and smarter thinking on recognition and reward management which are easier to manage and will be fairer to employees. I will recommend the workshop to all HR professionals to enable us to widen our knowledge and adapt the new thinking that Birches is leading.”

The Recognition and Reward workshop is the third course offering provided by Birches Group to its clients, complementing our Job Design and Evaluation and Compensation Management courses. The workshop focuses on methodologies to evaluate the accumulation of skills and the recognition of personal achievement within a given time frame. The three days featured a mixture of lectures and interactive exercises centered around an NGO case study which organizations were easily able to identify with.

NEW! Recognition and Reward Training Workshop- March 19-21, 2018

Birches Group is pleased to announce our NEW Rewards and Recognition Workshop! This course complements both our Compensation Management Workshop and our Job Design and Evaluation Workshop. Many participants in both these courses indicated a strong interest in taking a detailed look at Rewards and Recognition to build their repertoire as Human Resources professionals and strategic HR partners within their organizations.

 

The curriculum focuses on topics that will help participants to fully understand the difference between the assessment of skills growth and experience, and the measurement of performance and rewarding of achievement. The workshop will use the Birches Group Community™ systems for Performance evaluation and Skills assessment, both of which integrate well with our Job Design and Evaluation system as well as the Community™ levels used in our salary surveys.

 

We know from our survey experience that organizations – regardless of whether they are in the private sector, international public sector, or even the NGO sector – struggle with doing two things once an individual is put into a job or job grade:

  • How are they moved across the range and how to differentiate individuals with differing levels of skill in the same role?
  • How to measure performance in an easy and meaningful way?
