New York, N.Y. – August 1, 2008 – Birches Group LLC announces the availability of survey results from their annual total compensation survey of leading employers in Accra, Ghana. Birches Group conducted the survey during the month of June, 2008, capturing data from a cross-section of employers in the Accra market, including leaders in mining, consumer products, banking and telecom, as well as international public sector organizations.
The survey results show an average increase in total compensation of about 20% when compared to 2007. Support staff positions increased 14.4%, while professional jobs had increases averaging 27.3%. More experienced professionals and managers enjoyed the highest level of increases.
Organizations operating in Ghana will be interested in the typical market practice to supplement base salary with other forms of compensation (some of these benefits are offered to selected employees or positions only). The most common elements of compensation found in the Ghana market, in addition to base salary, include fixed bonus (75% of employers); food & beverages (70%); recreation (55%); incentive pay (45%); housing allowance (45%); and commuter benefits or transport allowance (45%). Company cars for executives are offered by 35% of employers. In addition, 25% of employers offered subsidized loans for housing, cars or personal reasons.
