The Birches Group survey methodology is specifically tailored to emerging markets, where datasets are smaller than in more developed markets.  Our approach ensures reliable and consistent data with datasets including between 10 and 25 leading employers, depending on the market.  We use the same methodology everywhere we survey.

EASE OF PARTICIPATION

Participating in a Birches Group survey is easy.  We rely on interviews with employers to gather key data, rather than lengthy questionnaires which require hours to complete.  The typical interview lasts about an hour, and is conducted either face-to-face or by phone.  We conduct on-the-ground data collection in about 20% of our survey countries each year.

Updates are easy, too.  Each employer will receive an e-mail request for updated information, showing the prior year's data for reference.  These updates are confirmed with a brief phone interview, if needed, to clarify the changes.

Since many employers participate in multiple countries, we use our prior knowledge of your practices to assist us in structuring the interviews, making them very efficient and even less of a burden to you.

Finally, many organizations prefer to submit data from regional centers of expertise.  Birches Group is happy to work with employers to facilitate bulk data submission in these cases.

CONSISTENT JOB MATCHING

We ensure the high quality of our data through rigorous job matching, which is performed by Birches Group salary survey specialists - not by employers.  Our specialists use the data gathered through the employer interviews (described above) to match and level your jobs.  As the employer, you are not required to learn the nuances of our job leveling system.  However, we always confirm our matches with you to ensure we understand how your organization is structured.

CONSISTENT SURVEY GROUP

We strive to survey a consistent group of employers every year, thus making sure that any market movement in our dataset is related to real changes in the market, rather than the impact of turnover among survey participants.  In fact, of the over 2,600 employer datasets we have collected, there are almost 1000 that represent the top 10 employers in our surveys across all countries we survey.

DEPTH OF DATA

In smaller markets, it is often difficult to find enough job matches to generate robust and accurate survey data. Birches Group consultants have developed an approach to address this problem, which has been proven over the last ten years. Our approach works even with modest numbers of participating employers, across all sectors.

Our surveys include information on all common components of remuneration, including:
